The City of Joy-Episode 2

Hi I am back with more words about kolkata.this time my subject is "people".

The weather is Pleasant (with more and more Humidity of course) hot & Sultry in summer, and Cold in winter.

Kolkata (A.K.A Calcutta) is the home of the Bengalis, volatile in politics, sports lover, and intellectual, romantic with a unique sensibility. To whom every activity is a commitment of passionate intensity, be it a religious festival, soccer matches, political demonstrations, music, art, poetry reading, eating or adda (chat sessions).

The Cities Population is Over One Crore (nearly 14 millions), Majority of them Belong to average or below Average of economic standards. Bulk of them is labor class, and most of the remaining is Business persons, and it is said that the Large number of Illegal Immigrants of Bangladeshi’s who belongs to Eastern Bengal,(E.B. was part of India before partition) reside in the City.

In General Kolkata is Very very Busy City and it is said that "the City Never sleeps".
Even though kolkata has wide roads and tall buildings on either sides yet the common site is crowded road with innumerable vehicles of all sorts such as Govt. buses, trams, metro trains, taxi's, autos, Cycle Rickshaw’s and Hand Pulling Rickshaw’s (Man Pulling).

This congested city with an explosive population has in its strides, assimilated people of all races, religion, castes, creed, and community and has rightly been labeled by many as the city of migrants and refugees. Indeed, no city other than kolkata reveals such a stunning unity among diversity. It is this mosaic of colorful people that literally makes Calcutta a vibrant 'city of joy'.

The City of Joy-Episode 1

Hello All,
Hope Everybody doing (Sleeping) well

to break the 'Silence' in this group, and also to share some of my experiences, this small 'attempt' is being made. In this series of mails, I am planning to describe about the City 'Kolkata' in my own way, words through my silent observation.

First of all I am glad to inform you that I had an opportunity to visit 'Kolkata' many times (almost 3 times),now being a temporary resident of this Great City, itâs a small Gratitude towards the Historic place and I Give an account of my experiences as well.

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is the second largest city in India and is home to over 11 million people. This city is situated at about 1500 KM away from Hyderabad , Geographically it is located in the East of India, contagious to Bangladesh (just 100 KM far) and this is situated on banks of River "Hoogly".

Kolkata is known in different names - âthe cultural capital of India â, âthe city of joyâ, and âthe city of processionsâ.

Significance of the day:
Today [22/sept] is MAHALAYA for Bengalis. Durga Puja starts with this day.
Mahalaya is an auspicious occasion observed seven days before the Durga Puja, and heralds the advent of Durga, the goddess of supreme power. It's a kind of invocation or invitation to the mother goddess to descend on earth - "Jago Tumi Jago". This is done through the chanting of mantras and singing devotional songs.

My First Flying Experience

Hi All,

This Year begining on 12th (i.e. on January 12th,2007) I had traveled to Hyderabad from Kolkata By Airdeccan flight, that was My first Flying Experience with lots of the Feelings in my mind/heart. Few Sai d their first flying was like ‘Watching Real Google Earth from sky’, some other Expressed They felt like ‘touching Sky’.
but but mine are …................

So be ready all to hear a very long Story for me...it is going to be really long so be Prepared to read a long story...

Before beginning this, I have to say few words…I went Airport for the first time, when I was in class 7th (I think that was Madhu mamayya’s Singapore or Canada trip, not sure) after that Number of times I went till the front gate (Visitor’s gallery), for Send offs/Receive Many Relatives of “Allani group” and also few Close Friends. But never had an opportunity to cross visitor’s gallery, this made me curious about Flight Journey, after loosing two onsite opportunities in the professional Life, my ‘insider’ was more curious about Flying, so he (my Insider) had always used to tell me “Better late than Never” .

I want to dedicate this article to both My maternal / paternal Grand parents and I thank to Wright brothers ...who invented Airplane, and also I thank to Mr.GR .Gopinath,CEO of Airdeccan (the common man’s Airplane) .

The Story Begins….

This was my first flight in my life; I was very much exhilarated at this venture. I was quite new to the procedural Issues; I was told that the air tickets can be booked through online; as such I approached ‘Air Deccan’.

Without any difficulty I could secure an air ticket from ‘Kolkata’ to ‘ Hyderabad ’, exactly 10 days ahead of my first Voyage.

On the day of my flight, I had left my office at about 3 PM and reached my residence,
There was not much luggage as such, one of my friends accompanied me to the airport and hence we hired a taxi up to Airport at about 5 pm, with that the Journey Begun.

The Domestic airport at kolkata is renamed after the Great leader Nethaji ‘Subhash Chandra Boss’, we reached there at sharp 5.40 pm.

At 5.50 pm I entered the airport and submitted my travel documents simultaneously my luggage was scanned, at another counter I was given the boarding pass. to go to aircraft which was bound for Hyderabad , there was Queue of about 70 passengers, among them 90% were Telugu Speaking Guys that to majority were IT Employees, may be because of that environment I didn’t feel like I am flying for the first time.

While proceeding further in the queue, I came to know that 3 more persons of my organization were coming to Hyderabad in the same plane. After 30 mins waiting we are led into an airport bus which took us near to the Plane parked at the distance.

An officer of the airlines standing at the “gang way” collected our tickets and allowed inside the aircraft. Hither to I had not seen an aircraft so closely, as I was coming from the sentimental family I thought it proper to put my right leg first into the aircraft, then “I boarded the plane for the first time in my life....”(Prapanchanni Gelichinatlu Adho Great Feeling kaasepu) .it took 20 min b4 it get started. I was not aware of the seat arrangement in the aircraft. With a hesitant mind not knowing where to sit I had entered the aircraft where an airhostess welcomed us and showed our seats. She had also helped me in tie my seat belt.

At 7.15 pm the entrance of the plane was closed and pilot entered cockpit, after that the flight Officer introduced her self as Anamika and given certain instructions to the passengers on board that we have… to fasten our seat belts, not to use cell Phone at the start of the flight, incase of emergencies how to use saving devices (life vests).
She also indicated the arrival destination Time.

At 7.20 the plane started movement up to the runway till the last point and it took turn, on the main runway picked up speed within that speed itself raised to the sky at sharp 7.42 pm

As it was night time I could see from a height, the entire city of kolkata glowing with street lights, it gave me a picture of shining galaxies below me.

During the initial flight hour, I had a feeling that the plane after attaining the desired height appear to the quite motion less and I had doubt whether it was moving forward or not. The person sitting next to me had a similar effect on him as it was also a first flight for him. (It went to some 3/4 of height then it was 45 degrees and I was like
Hanging in the air...then it was ok..) As the plane moved forward towards its destination the glittering kolkata disappeared and the entire surrounding atmosphere feel into vast darkness absolutely nothing visible.

( Madhya lo Teliyaka Windows ki CHevulu aninchi Padununnanu, kaani Ventane Ghooba Pagile la Chevilo Okate Resound Vachchi Avasta paddanu, kasepu pakkana vadu matladedi kuda emi vinapadaledu)

On an observation, the interior of the plane presented nothing new then an luxury Volvo bus.

At 9.15 pm after completion of the two hours journey, the aircraft lowered on approaching Hyderabad city and then we knew that our journey is coming to an end.

At 9.18 pm we had seen big roads of Hyderabad city and flight officer announced the city details like temperature and airport name (NTR domestic airport), after some time we had get down from the flight and caught the bus to go the exit gate of airport, at the same time
One of my good Bengali friends Ms. Hrituparna called me and asked ‘whether you reached safely’ (Oh god! very good auspicious sign)

Being my first venture of a flight I had enjoyed a lot but a loss being night time there was a pinch of little sorrow that I could not see the beauty of the earth from such great height, perhaps it would have been possible if the flight was during day time and I could have enjoyed a little more.

Ok, the mail backs with feed back on this story, (Telugu Lo ayithe Enka Baga Wrasi unde vanni)

My last day at TechMahindra

Hi All,

As a proverb in my local language puts it "Ten kids cannot play together for ten years", it is time to say goodbye to the wonderful Team.

It’s been a pleasure working with you all and everyone getting this email has made my stay here memorable in one way or the other.

Yes, you got it right what I am going to say now, I wanted to take a moment to let you all know that I am leaving my position at TechMahindra, This decision was not an easy one and Involved many hours of thoughtful consideration, particularly with respect to my Personal Problems and plans for my future.

I have enjoyed my tenure here and I appreciate having had the opportunity to work with you all. Thank you for the support, guidance, information and encouragement you have provided me during my time here.

It is very hard moment to convey my final wishes from my cube at TechM, but I can proudly say that I have every fun filled, teasing moments of my days in Kolkata.

How can I forget.... fun cherished moments with few friends (Leg Pulling, chatting, gossiping, Funny and Chain Mail forwards, thought for the Days, long boring KT’s, ESG Programs, Bench Periods, Shift and Weekend Duties, TechM Soccer and other Josh Programs, Arguments, ghatia Food at Tech M Canteens and Birthday Celebrations, last but not least.. Xmas Decorations (I remembered first time I have acted as Santa Claus).

When I look at the Other Side...

Those Pooja Days (Dashara) at kolkata were unforgettable, also I must tell about “IT-Milan”- the like minded Friends (from different states) group, which motivated many of us (IT Guys) towards the Social and Cultural Activities through Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram (an Organization which works for Tribal welfare)

Kolkata has also given me the memorable moment for Life like My First Flying and a Legendary Teacher (Mr.Solyl Kundu) and the International Club Membership in IBM of LosVegas and an Opportunity to Meet Mr. PC Sarkar, The Jadhugar.

Few Friends forced me directly or indirectly to get my Technical Certification done. Few encouraged Book reading habit .it’s a Great learning from each and every One.

Frequent Visits to Famous Adda’s like City Center , Forum, Swabhumi S-planet, Metro Trains… Hummmnnn I will miss all the things, it is painful to leave such a beautiful city. Yeah! City is beautiful by the presence of beautiful people, sweet language and mouthful “Rasgullas”

Finally before sending my Last E-mail from this Stupid Machine, (dragged most of my Prime Time with Google Search) I want to share one good Story…….

Once a blind person asked Swami Vivekananda “Is there is anything worse than losing one’s sight?” Swami Vivekananda said “Yes…. Losing one’s Vision”. Vision is what makes a great achiever…. Think big…. As you think, so you become!!

Finally ….I will miss my colleagues, friends at TechM and Kolkata, The City of Joy, but Memories remain for ever. Please keeps in touch, I can be reached at my personal email address vinjamoori_venu@yahoo.com , also you can always find me at my personal web space, i.e. http://vinjamoori.googlepages.com/

Thanks again for everything and I wish you all good luck for all your future Endeavors.
