what is Cyclone :A cyclone is a major storm that rotates around a central eye, and can be enormously destructive.
why we name it?Cyclones are named to provide ease of communication between forecasters and the generalpublic regarding forecasts, watches, and warnings.Naming cyclones can reduce the confusion about what storm is being described.
NAMING CYCLONES:
An Australian meteorologist by the name of Clement Wragge gave names to theseextreme weather events. Wragge thought it would make people more interested in theweather. He began by naming cyclones after political figures whom he disliked.
DIFFERENT NAMES IN DIFFERENT:
PLACESCyclones are only given them name "cyclone" in the Indian and South Pacific Oceans. Inthe western part of the North Pacific Ocean, they are called a "typhoon" - which comesfrom the Chinese word, "taifun", which means "great wind". In the US, they're calledhurricanes, from the West Indian word, "huracan", which means "big wind".
CHANGING NAME:
A cyclone can change its name. If a cyclone starts in the Atlantic Ocean with the name"Karl", and crosses over Mexico into the Pacific Ocean, it could be renamed "Alice". Thefirst cyclone of a season is given a name beginning with A, the second one a namebeginning with B, and so on. If a cyclone causes great destruction, then its name is"retired" from the list of potential names, and never used again.
